The wine cooperative installs a solar farm with nearly a thousand photovoltaic panels to make its energy needs more sustainable
La Seca, 5 May 2022.- Bodega Cuatro Rayas goes one step further to implement its values of respect for the environment by installing a solar panel farm. The purpose of this new facility is to produce and provide with photovoltaic energy the two cooperative workplaces—located in La Seca (Valladolid)— that house the necessary premises for the winemaking, production, bottling, storage, and logistics of the winery—specialist in quality winemaking under the designation of origin Rueda. With this project, Cuatro Rayas’ energy supply is optimised through solar energy—a renewable and clean resource— and the dependency on fossil fuels is minimised, thus reducing the impact on the environment.
The solar farm consists of 992 photovoltaic panels installed in an agricultural field near the winery—purchased by the cooperative to this end—and has been integrated into its environment respectfully. Every panel of the energy infrastructure has a power generating capacity of 400kW, supplying a high portion of the required power efficiently for the winery activities during daylight. In addition, the new solar farm will contribute positively by reducing the winery impact on the environment over the expected 25 years of service life for the solar facility, which required an investment of €338,000.
COMMITTED TO ENVIRONMENTAL AND RURAL SOCIETY SUSTAINABILITY
Since its beginning, Bodega Cuatro Rayas’ priorities have been caring for the environment and the welfare of the people living in the rural area. This philosophy contributes to the cooperative character and inspires the current Strategic Plan, which sets out its mission to ensure sustainability and generation renewal in the wine-growing environment.
Cuatro Rayas translates this green philosophy into the emblem ‘green & social’, a seal that attests to the commitment of the winery from DO Rueda to respect both the environment and people. The design of this hallmark depicts a grape and a smiley face united by two arrows forming a circle and highlights the interdependence of the sustainability of the natural environment and the people who live in it.
