La Seca, 2 February 2023.- Along with the publication of Luis Gutiérrez’s last article in Robert Parker’s ‘The Wine Advocate’ de Robert Parker from the Duero, the prestigious American magazine has updated the wine tastings and scores of the wines from this region in Spain. The list includes five brands from Bodega Cuatro Rayas, scoring 90 points and over.
The Gran Vino de RuedaCuatro Rayas Longverdejo 2021, scores 91 points and is described as «very good». They highlight its «seriousness, varietal character, and balance» and its connection to the project it is named after, which studies reviving old yeast and optimising the Verdejo variety’s ageing potential.
The Wine Advocate rates 91 points Pisuerga Verdejo 2020, a wine with VdIT appellation, highlighting its old vine character from different villages of Valladolid: Villanueva de Duero and La Seca. They say this Verdejo is vinified in concrete egg with the lees for 18 months, and its palate is «round, tasty, and clean, with notes of white flowers, fruit, and pollen».
The 2018 vintage of the most exclusive brand of the cooperative winery, Amador Diez Verdejo Cuvée is rated 90 points. Regarding this barrel-fermented Verdejo, from the oldest vines of Bodega Cuatro Rayas cooperative members, they point out its expressiveness, volume, and balance, as well as its notes of sweet spices and white flowers.
Cuarenta Vendimias Cuvée 2021 – also under the Gran Vino de Rueda label, scores 90 points in the wine tasting, describing it as balsamic, with notes of quince and peach, a good freshness, and a light to medium body.
’61’ Dorado en Rama (*bottling Nov 2021) – has obtained the highest score: 92 points recognising the expressive nose –highlighting its notes of nuts–, powerfulness, character, and long and tasty finish of this fortified wine that is aged in historical butts until it is bottled without clarification or filtering. This wine literally received a «Bravo!» from the publication.
