The cooperative finished a campaign focused on achieving the greatest grape quality with an average vineyard yield of 8,000 kg per hectare, 20 % less than the maximum allowed in Rueda
La Seca, 4 October 2024.– Bodega Cuatro Rayas has finished the 2024 harvest notable for its excellent grape quality and overall great health. The new hectares added by the winegrowers this year—mostly dedicated to organic farming—have offset the decrease caused byt the losses suffered due to spring frost and summer heatwaves, enabling the winery to reah over 18 million kilograms of grapes.
The campaign started picking Sauvignon Blanc on 29 August and lasted for 37 days, whereby wine grower members carried out the delivery of the Verdejo, Viura and Palomino Fino vineyards into the winery until they delivered the last trailer with Tempranillo into its facilities on the 4 October.

As stated by Mercedes Bragado and Enrique González, managers of the Vineyard Department at Bodega Cuatro Rayas, the harvest has been carried out in a staggered manner due to the favourable weather conditions, the varying locations of the fields and the wide range of grape varietis. The temperature difference between day and night, with moderate temperatures during the day, has promoted a slower maturity and made it possible to harvest the grape with the optimal acidity, pH and potential alcohol parameters. However, pace of the harvest had to be increased during the final two weeks. The average amount of grapes harvested has fallen, due to the weather conditions and the promotion of good vineyard practices by winegrower members to seek the best grape health and optimal organoleptic concentration, resulting in 20% lower average yields than those allowed by DO Rueda Regulatory Council: 8,000 kg per hectare, compared to 10,000 kg. For vineyard terrains designated for producing the category Gran Vino de Rueda, the yields ranged between 4,500 and 5,500 kg compared to the authorised 6,500.
Refreshing on the nose and full-bodied on the palate
Elena M. Oyagüe, Technical Director and winemaker at the cooperative highlighted that the 2024 campaign was characterized by ‘a slow ripening process which allowed us to pick up the berries at the optimal time so we can produce varietal wines with an aromatic expression showcasing fresh fruit and floral notes’. ‘We can expect refreshing wines on the nose, and full-bodied on the palate’, said the winemaker.
