Parker awards 90 points or more to five wines from Bodega Cuatro Rayas, praising it as ‘an exemplary cooperative’

The Wine Advocate has reviewed the following wines from the winery: ‘Cuarenta Vendimias Verdejo 2024’ receives a score of RP90+, ‘Amador Diez Verdejo Cuvée 2021’ is awarded RP93, ‘Cuatro Rayas Longverdejo 2023’ scores RP91, while the micro-vinifications ‘Pisuerga Verdejo 2022’ and ‘Pisuerga Tinto 2023’ are rated RP92 and RP91, respectively

La Seca, 20 June 2025.- In the latest article by wine critic Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker’s renowned American publication The Wine Advocate features wines from the Duero region and updates both scores and tasting notes for wines from this part of Spain. The most recent reviews from this area – which encompass several designations of origin and protected geographical indications – include no fewer than five wines from Bodega Cuatro Rayas that have been awarded 90 points or more.

In addition, within the producer description that accompanies each wine rating, the magazine highlights Bodega Cuatro Rayas as ‘an exemplary cooperative’, noting that it cultivates a vineyard area ‘larger than the Jura or Priorat’ and, thanks to the 300+ members, is ‘doing micro-vinifications and striving for quality’.

Cuarenta Vendimias Verdejo 2024 is rated 90+ points with the review praising its freshness and some pungent notes – ‘citrus and herbal’. The taster also remarks that it is ‘varietal’ and features a “chalkiness” he finds appealing.

As for Gran Vino de Rueda Cuatro Rayas Longverdejo 2023, which is rated 91 points, the review describes aromas of ‘ripe yellow fruit’ on the nose, while maintaining the ‘balance, freshness and poise’. He also comments on the wine’s ‘subtle yeasty and toasty notes’ linking these characteristics to the winemaking process and the indigenous yeasts recovery project that lends the wine its name and aims to enhance the ageing potential of the Verdejo grape.

The list of ratings also includes two unconventional wines marketed under the PGI Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León: Pisuerga Verdejo 2022– a single-varietal wine aged in concrete vats – is awarded 92 points and described as a vin de garde Verdejo ‘that goes beyond the varietal notes’ offering ‘a creamy nose, with some lactic hints of mature cheese’. Meanwhile, the first vintage of Pisuerga Tinto 2023 – matured in barrels and demijohns – scores 91 points, praised for its ‘velvety mouthfeel and soft tannins, slightly dusty’.

Finally, Gran Vino de Rueda Amador Diez Verdejo Cuvée 2021 – a barrel-fermented wine which received a score of 93 points – is described unequivocally in The Wine Advocate as ‘quite impressive’ and ‘judiciously oaked’. The reviewer explains that the reason behind this winemaking process is Bodega Cuatro Rayas’ aim to return to the roots of the DO Rueda, adding that ‘they seem to have mastered the process’.
