James Suckling—American wine critic based in Hong Kong—rates +90 points on three Bodega Cuatro Rayas’ brands


La Seca, 11 August 2022. – Last weeks left a bright trail in the list of triumphs of Cuatro Rayas’ brands—adding seven new recognitions after the cooperative winery participation in the Berliner Wein Trophy 2022 Summer Edition and the reviews published about its brands on the website of the influential James Suckling, confirming thus the outstanding quality of these wines.

FOUR GOLD MEDALS IN THE 2022 SUMMER BERLINER WINE TROPHY

More than 6,000 wines from all around the globe were submitted to the Summer edition of the German Contest and then tasted and reviewed during 8 days of tastings by about 220 international jury members. Among them, four brands from Bodega Cuatro Rayas were awarded with a Gold Medal—three DO Rueda Verdejos: – Green & Social Verdejo 2021, Bascarlón Verdejo 2021 and Cuatro Rayas Viñedos Centenarios 2o21 – and a DOCa Rioja red wine, the result of an inter-cooperative project: Cuarenta Vendimias Rioja 2019.

In addition, James Suckling, an American wine critic based in Hong Kong, has rated on his website during the last weeks three brands from Bodega Cuatro Rayas that have proven to be outstanding by scoring at or above 90 points out of 100.

Cuarenta Vendimias Ribera del Duero 2020 was rated with 91 points by Suckling, recognising thus its excellent quality. Regarding this brand—a unique selection of the winemaker Elena M. Oyagüe, Technical Director at Bodega Cuatro Rayas—Suckling says it is a “fresh and vibrant” wine in which “the mix of black and red plum” stands out.

Cuatro Rayas Viñedos Centenarios 2020 shares the same score with the latter reaching 91 points in the tasting of the American connoisseur, who describes it as “quite an intense verdejo (…) with a bright acidity that runs through it”. While, regarding Gran Vino de Rueda  Cuatro Rayas Longverdejo 2o20 -he highlights the flinty streak in the finish, scoring 90 points in Suckling’s tasting.
