In visual phase, this red is intense cherry red, with a medium layer and garnet rims and its nose is complex and balanced, with aromas of ripe black fruit, berries, roasted, vanilla and spicy spices. Its passage through the mouth is velvety, smooth and persistent.

Intense and clean on the nose, notes of licorice and ripe black fruits are appreciated on a spicy background and hints of mocha and roasted notes. Cuatro Rayas Centennial Vineyards

The grapes are harvested by hand during the day and fermented at 15ºC with selected yeasts: 15% do so in 500-liter French oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel tanks to later be aged on their lees with battonâge for 5 months. Pale yellow in color with greenish reflections, it is bright and transparent to the eye. Floral notes stand out on the nose, on a background of ripe fruit and aniseed typical of the variety. In the mouth it is round and unctuous, fatty and enveloping, with great persistence.

    #VitresCuatroRayas is born

The #VitresCuatroRayas initiative will raise awareness and optimize the application and handling of phytosanitary products in viticulture

La Seca, July 28, 2020. – The Business Association for the Protection of Plants and Cuatro Rayas Winery, together with the Junta de Castilla y León through the Ministry of Agriculture, are developing a collaboration project with which they intend to make wine growers aware of the importance of prevention labor and compliance with good agricultural practices in the handling and use of phytosanitary products. The leading winery of the Rueda Denomination of Origin has more than 300 winegrowing partners who work around 2,500 hectares in about thirty towns located in the provinces of Valladolid and Segovia.

The fundamental axis of #VitresCuatroRayas -name with which this initiative has been baptized- is based on the conviction that good agricultural practices must be complied with in all phases of development of the viticultural activity, which implies following at all times the indications of protection and security necessary in the manipulation of phytosanitary products; that is, from the purchase of the product itself to the management of empty containers, as well as re-entry tasks. It is considered essential to follow at all times the indications on the labeling of this type of products, which include the protection, hygiene and preventive measures, officially prescribed, such as – for example – the use of gloves. As it has been detected that users do not always understand and comply with these preventive measures, despite the risks that not following them may entail for their health, this project has been launched to promote good agricultural practices among vineyard workers.

The cooperative’s wine-growing partners will provide key information
#VitresCuatroRayas is already underway, having carried out a preliminary phase of analysis of the starting situation, in which surveys have been carried out on a selection of winegrowers who are members of the Bodega Cuatro Rayas cooperative. These surveys have been carried out by the technical advisors of the winery, so that the information provided by the winegrowers is, as far as possible, as faithful to reality as possible.

In the same way that has been done in other similar projects -as is the case of citrus fruits in the Valencian Community or in vineyards in La Rioja-, from the information obtained in the surveys, it will be determined at what points the applications can be improved. of phytosanitary products in matters related to the safety of the operator and also in terms of the correct calibration of the treatment machinery, which will make it possible to avoid water contamination when these substances are applied, counting on the TOPPS project.
In addition to developing preventive measures, as part of this project, informative material will be prepared that can be used both by trainers and advisers and by the farmers themselves in the performance of their daily work.

  • Nace #VitresCuatroRayas

  • Cuatro Rayas shields its winery to obtain maximum guarantee against COVID in harvest

Cuatro Rayas shields its winery to obtain maximum guarantee against COVID in harvest

It rules out resuming the wine tourism activity and will continue to restrict access to its two wineries in order to preserve security in facilities where strict protocols have been implemented against COVID-19

It focuses on the safety of night mechanical harvesting that facilitates disinfection in all processes, as well as strict social distancing; It will protect the partners who harvest the old vineyards in glass so that prevention is extreme in the crews, equipment, transport and accommodation

La Seca, July 21, 2020.- A little over a month before the harvest begins in the DO Rueda, Bodega Cuatro Rayas considers it essential to remain responsible and maintain the restrictions on access to its facilities despite the significant setback that it entails in its investment in wine tourism, as well as the organizational overexertion which means to supply with guarantees to its hundreds of national and international distributors. Therefore, it rules out resuming visits, including those related to the Rueda Wine Route, with the aim of minimizing contacts and therefore preserving the health of its nearly 400 workers and partners who live in some thirty towns in Valladolid and Segovia, and therefore in favor of public health.

The cooperative, which days before the declaration of the first State of Alarm period already formed a specific Prevention Committee to deal with Covid-19, canceled all visits, paralyzed all trips and promoted teleworking, has since March shielded its wineries in the Valladolid town of La Seca and is now focused on the conditioning and implementation of strict work protocols for the reception of more than 15 million kilos of Verdejo grapes with which it will make wines that will be distributed in more than 50 countries . It contemplates action guidelines for the development of tasks in a telematic way whenever the task carried out allows it, the blocking of face-to-face meetings, the strict regulation of the use of common areas, the organization of coordinated work teams, the reinforcement of the cleaning services for facilities and equipment, disinfectant mats, masks and hydroalcoholic gels, taking the temperature of anyone who is allowed access to the premises or carrying out antibody tests on all employees, among others.

Suitability of mechanical harvesting in favor of social distance
The winery, which for years has harvested most of its farms by machine at night to preserve the grapes from oxidation, in addition to controlling the temperature with nitrogen and carrying out intertis pressing, focuses on the safety of this type of harvest that facilitates disinfection in all equipment, as well as strict social distancing and total absence of contact with the product. On the other hand, it will protect the partners who harvest the old vineyards in glass so that prevention is extreme in the crews, equipment, transport and accommodation.
