The American wine critic based in Asia publishes on his website the wine-tasting results of the brands from the winery in Valladolid and gives an outstanding score to two Verdejos and one Tempranillo of the cooperative winery.
The unconventional Pisuerga 2020 ocores 91 points, while both Veliterra Verdejo 2022 and Cuatro Rayas Roble Tempranillo 2021 score 90 points at jamessuckling.com
La Seca, 3 May 2023.- The website ‘jamessuckling.com’—managed from Hong Kong by the internationally renowned American critic after whom it is named—has published its review on three Bodega Cuatro Rayas’ wines which obtained outstanding results after the tasting. Each of the wines featured on Suckling’s reviews has a different winemaking profile of the cooperative winery from La Seca, again showing its product portfolio’s versatility.
Among the wines rated by James Suckling’s tasting team, the highest score goes to Pisuerga Verdejo 2020, reaching 91 points, the same rating rated by the American magazine ‘The Wine Advocate – Robert Parker’ last February. Thus, only a few months after being released, the uniqueness of this unconventional Verdejo under PGI Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León and aged on its lees for 18 months in concrete egg vat is recognised. Regarding this wine, they say, “its herbs and bitter spices cleanse the palate before a dry and pithy finish”.
Likewise, the single-variety Verdejo Veliterra 2022– an indigenous grape variety to DO Rueda with which Bodega Cuatro Rayas produced a large number of its best-known wines—was rated 90 points by the website from Hong Kong. They also highlight in their review that, on the palate, it is “fresh and clean” with “pithy citrus notes” at the end.
Finally, Cuatro Rayas Roble Tempranillo 2021, a Ribera del Duero aged for four months in French and American oak barrel, also scores 90 points, and they say it showcases fruity and spicy notes, with aromas of “blueberries, spiced cherries, thyme, mocha and nutmeg”.
