Valladolid, a highly successful crime novel writer who has just released his latest book ‘Todo lo mejor’, toasts with Cuatro Rayas Verdejo 2018 Nocturnal Harvest, a new vintage of the winery’s most emblematic wine

La Seca (Valladolid), December 2018.- The tasting room of Bodega Cuatro Rayas becomes the last stage of the writer César Pérez Gellida (Valladolid, 1974), but instead of white chalk marks on the floor there are two glasses of verdejo on the table. From fiction to reality with Benjamín Zarandona, a former Real Valladolid footballer, as a witness to the events. Audiovisual narrative worked very early, like the work in the vineyard. Gellida confesses that she has “a spartan routine, because as soon as I open my eye, which is usually between four and five in the morning, or even earlier, my brain immediately begins to function.”

A town crier of the last festivals in Valladolid, Gellida boasts of his land: “when I started writing, perhaps for convenience, I set the novel Mememto Mori in Valladolid, mainly because there is no place in the world that I know better. Besides, Valladolid has very sinister corners, which perhaps people do not know so much about, but many areas can perfectly set any crime-crime novel “. Benjamín remembers one of his nods to local products, which Gellida recalls with these words: “In Cuchillo de palo, in a scene that takes place in Galicia, at some point someone talks to Sancho about albariño and he tells him that it is broth of cold chicken compared to our Verdejos, with Cuatro Rayas ”.
Gellida, a well-known sports lover and a faithful follower of Rugby El Salvador, talks to Benjamin about a passion that began as a child: “I played handball for many years, since I was little, but I am passionate about rugby”.

Real Valladolid
From the Pepe Rojo fields to the José Zorrilla football stadium, Gellida values the Pucela season: “We are very good in qualifying, we have a very compact team, very organized; I think Sergio is doing things well. With this squad and with this budget, the lowest in the First Division, that we are where we are and standing up to the greats […] I think this year we are going to enjoy a lot in Zorrilla ”. Benjamin asks him about the figure of Ronaldo as the new president of the entity: “It only has positive connotations, because a guy like Ronaldo with the arrival that he has to the media, simply with that photo that can be taken with any famous person with the Real Valladolid shirt with Cuatro Rayas, let’s say it amortizes its figure […] And then it has already shown that it is a phenomenon in business ”.

Gellida, immersed in promoting his latest novel Todo el mejor, dedicates a copy to Benjamin. For the firm, he uses a Cuatro Rayas cement-coated pen, a special edition that commemorates the concrete tanks of the 1935 winery. La Seca (Valladolid), diciembre de 2018.- La sala de catas de Bodega Cuatro Rayas se convierte en el último escenario del escritor César Pérez Gellida (Valladolid, 1974), pero en lugar de marcas de tiza blanca en el suelo hay dos copas de verdejo en la mesa. De la ficción a la realidad con Benjamín Zarandona, ex futbolista del Real Valladolid, como testigo de los hechos. Narrativa audiovisual trabajada desde muy temprano, al igual que la labor en la viña. Gellida confiesa que tiene “una rutina espartana, porque en cuanto abro el ojo, que suele ser entre las cuatro y las cinco de la mañana, o incluso antes, enseguida mi cerebro empieza a funcionar”.

Pregonero de las últimas fiestas de Valladolid, Gellida presume de su tierra: “cuando empecé a escribir, tal vez por comodidad, ambienté la novela Mememto Mori en Valladolid, principalmente porque no hay sitio en el mundo que yo conozca mejor. Aparte Valladolid tiene rincones muy siniestros, que tal vez la gente no conoce tanto, pero muchas zonas pueden ambientar perfectamente cualquier novela negro-criminal”. Benjamín recuerda uno de sus guiños a los productos locales, que Gellida rememora con estas palabras: “En Cuchillo de palo, en una escena que se desarrolla en Galicia, en algún momento alguien le habla a Sancho del albariño y él le dice que es caldo de gallina fría comparado con nuestros verdejos, con Cuatro Rayas”.
Gellida, reconocido amante del deporte y con fiel seguidor del Rugby El Salvador, habla con Benjamín de una pasión que empezó de niño: “Jugué al balonmano muchos años, desde pequeño, pero soy un apasionado del rugby”.

Real Valladolid
De los campos de Pepe Rojo al estadio de fútbol José Zorrilla, Gellida valora la temporada del Pucela: “Estamos muy bien en la clasificación, tenemos un equipo muy compacto, muy ordenado; creo que Sergio está haciendo bien las cosas. Con esta plantilla y con este presupuesto, el más bajo de Primera División, que estemos donde estamos y plantando cara a los grandes […] Creo que este año vamos a disfrutar bastante en Zorrilla”. Benjamín le pregunta por la figura de Ronaldo como nuevo presidente de la entidad: “Sólo tiene connotaciones positivas, porque un tipo como Ronaldo con la llegada que él tiene a los medios, simplemente con esa foto que se puede hacer con cualquier personaje famoso con la camiseta del Real Valladolid con Cuatro Rayas, digamos que amortiza su figura […] Y luego ya ha demostrado que empresarialmente es un fenómeno”.

Todo lo mejor
Gellida, inmerso en la promoción de su última novela Todo lo mejor, dedica un ejemplar a Benjamín. Para la firma utiliza un bolígrafo con revestimiento de cemento Cuatro Rayas, una edición especial que conmemora los depósitos de hormigón de la bodega de 1935. Gellida, además, hábilmente liga este singular bolígrafo con el muro de Berlín en el que está ambientada Todo lo mejor.
